Well, after the short lived derailment of the avatar thread, and seeing there is already an anime thread, i thought id start up a comics thread.
for myself, im currently reading though some of the early hellblazer, and i have to say i love it.
some other reccomendations id have to say are transmetropolitan and Preacher, both of which I really enjoyed

My favorites:

* The Immortal Iron Fist (Marvel comics)
* World of Warcraft (WildStorm/DC comics)
Both of these are great stories and had fantastic art. However both are currently suffering from a change in artists. But the story lines continue to be really good.

* All Star: Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder (DC). Frank Miller (writer), Jim Lee (artist) need I say more? This series focuses on how Robin becomes Batman's sidekick. The story gets into the motivation and thoughts that lead Robin into Batman's world. Great!!

* Elephantmen (Image comics) set in the future a couple hundred years where some mad scientist combines human DNA and Hippos, Rinos, and Elephants (oh my) to create an army to take over the world, but before it goes too far the world shuts it down. So the story is all about these "Elephantmen" and their humanity. Very unique and painfully current topics combined with great art.

* Soulfire (Aspen Comics)
* Fathom (Aspen Comics)
These are series by Michael Turner's company (he just past away :(. The story lines are very compelling and the artwork is very good.

@spikeyboy I'm not sure, it certainly has potential, but im not sure if they can manage to pull it off. The rumours about its length and the fact that they may well include Under the hood and the pirate comic as directors cut extras are definately intriguing.
and just in case anyone has missed the trailer, here it is: http://www.empireonline.com/vide...

Just read Watchmen. Amazing. Read Sandman a long time ago. Also wonderful.
Half way through my deadpool collection. Still my favorite hero of all time...

Watchmen (the comic) is magnificent. I am very very concerned about the film... a comic that is so immensely self referential and overtly concerned with the comic format as a medium may translate very badly. While they may succeed in making a good film in its own right, the subtleties of the text would be lost and bastardised. I would highly recommend American Born Chinese, Maus (obviously), Sin City and 300 (as comparative study, comics to film) Persepolis and Blankets.

Aside from the obvious, e.g. Sandman, Transmet, Watchmen, I want to read The Question comics. Maybe it's just my fetish for fedoras, investigative journalism and butt-kicking. I've got the first collection, but beyond that they're hard to find. (Especially since my paypal account doesn't work so I can't use eBay.)

Oh, and I know he features prominately in 52, but there's other stuff I have to read before I read that.

I am also currently reading Freak Angels and La Muse.
Freak Angels is still rollin' on and will come out in book form at some point...La Muse just finished up--it's not as compelling as Freak Angels, but is still entertaining.

Stuff like that.

I feel a little underdressed in here, so I shall depart.

My all-time favorite is Spawn, the main series and Dark Ages. I'm not sure about the Godslayer spin-off yet.

I also read a lot X-Men, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Spiderman, and almost everything else by Marvel. (Guess who's my favorite character there.)

And then there's Looking For Group (Richard FTW!), of course, and I also like Freak Angels a lot, and Gone With The Blastwave.

I'm a huge Dr. Who fan and IDW Publishing just came out with a "Doctor Who" comic book. This #1 issue features the current T.V. series Doctor and Martha Jones. But in an all new story that you won't see on the tube. If you like comics and you like Dr. Who this one will really please you.

Apparently IDW does a lot of T.V. themed comic books.

My favourite graphic novels:

When I was a kid - Marvel was where it was at - Spiderman was the bollox - still got a soft spot for it, especially the Ditko stuff. After Ditko - many greats stick in the mind - stories with The Green Goblin (Gwen Stacy!) and The Vulture, Kraven, Electro and The Sandman (remember that one where he merged with Hydroman?) are memorable. Many others too!

Hulk - 'nuff said! He'll smash - enjoyed all incarnations - including the grey version.

X-men - never bought the comic but read a mate's collection - the dark phoenix saga sticks in the mind. Ended up reading 'The New Mutants' too and other spin-offs.

Moon Knight - I was the only one who bought that comic it seemed! It was relaunched with MK having extra powers. Again - it was cancelled, even earlier than the first run.

Alpha Flight! Canadian avengers really.

The Thing - he had his own series after 'Secret Wars' - I enjoyed that. Never really read The Fantastic Four much, but always had a soft spot for Ben Grimm.

The 'infinity Gauntlet' series was good.

Marvel Two In one.

What If?

West Coast Avengers (I was a maverick!)

Many others....I really liked Groo - that was fun.

Since then - in recent years - I've been reading the usual - watchmen - Sandman - Preacher, League of Extraordinary gentlemen...

I enjoy old stuff like Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog too - the old 2000AD strips - well worth buying.

My fave at the moment is Robert Kirkland's 'The Walking Dead' series - well worth a read if you're into zombie stuff....

Yup - comic fan here....
